Calculate the cost of running an appliance
Estimate an appliance’s daily, monthly and annual electricity cost from its wattage, use time and your electricity rate.
Actual consumption can differ: devices may cycle on and off, draw less than their nameplate rating, or use standby power. Use this as a helpful estimate.
Find the biggest opportunities
Try the calculator with your highest-use devices first: space heating and cooling, water heating, clothes dryers, ovens, pool pumps and electric vehicle charging. Small daily reductions on high-wattage appliances can add up quickly.
Reading your electricity rate
Look for the total cost per kilowatt-hour on a recent bill. If your utility has time-of-use pricing, run separate estimates using the relevant peak and off-peak rates.
